Frisco homeowners riding in Children’s Hospital benefit

Frisco homeowner

I have some clients, Laura and Dave Hansen, whose hearts are in the right place.  Every year they ride in the Courage Classic, which begins in Leadville  and ends in Leadville, but is based at Copper Mountain, Colorado.  This year the dates are July 21, 22 and 23.  The bike ride is a benefit for The Children’s Hospital and is a tough ride!

Courage Classic riders

For this non-bike rider, even the bike path from Frisco up to Copper is a slog; I would rather hike up Buffalo Mountain!  Laura and Dave will be riding 157 miles in 3 days.  The first day they ride from Leadville to Copper via Vail Pass, 59 miles and almost 4,000 feet of elevation gain. On Sunday the ride goes around Lake Dillon, over Swan Mountain Road to Breckenridge, and back to Copper, with the option of doubling the day’s miles to 100 miles by riding north to the summit of Ute Pass.  The last day is another tough one, with a ride up to Leadville from Copper for another 45 miles and 3985 feet of elevation gain. The photo to the right shows them crossing the finish line wearing their Bert and Ernie jersies.  They wear them because there are so many kids at the ride and the kids love seeing Bert and Ernie.

Below is the route map.

Laura says “I  ride for the physical challenge of pushing myself up three mountain passes and riding 154 miles over three consecutive days. I ride because it makes my heart feel good to see all the other riders out there, including some with disabilities, doing the same thing as me. And I ride to support The Children’s Hospital.”  You can help support Laura and Dave and Children’s Hospital by clicking on the link to Laura’s page and donating through the Courage Classic website

Thank you Joanne for helping generate interest in the Children’s Hospital Courage Classic bike ride. Dave and I enjoy doing this ride every year. It is personally rewarding since many past and present Children’s Hospital patients participate in riding or just cheering us on. It is a small effort on our part compared to what many of these kids have to endure. We have had a personal experience with Children’s Hospital and I wouldn’t send a child anywhere else for treatment.
