Frisco home owners welcome a new bookstore, The Next Page
The Next Page opened today with traffic provided courtesy of the Frisco Barbeque Challenge. What a great day to open a bookstore! This weekend is the kickoff weekend for summer, with Kingdom days in Breckenridge and the Barbeque Challenge in Frisco, so there are lots of people in town.

Several years ago, many mourned the passing of the Daily Planet bookstore when its lease was not renewed by the building owner. Since then, Borders has come to Silverthorne, and I thought that we would not get another bookstore in Frisco, other than Winds of Change, which handled primarily new age books. (Although I hear it has sold and the focus is changing.) But today, The Next Page opened and I am anxious to see how it will go for them. Frisco is an interesting little community and another bookstore will make it even more so. The store is owned by locals who should have a good handle on what our local residents want and our visitors need as they vacation here.
I visited the store today, and they have a wonderful selection of books, everything from kids books to best sellers to local interest. I was especially glad to see hiking maps and field guides for birds and wildflowers. Aaron Ralston, who cut off his own arm when caught by a rock in a canyon in Utah and wrote “Between a Rock and a Hard Place”, had his book on the shelf. I noticed another about pilates for the outdoor athlete, plus photography books with all the most beautiful places in Colorado in their pages. There was a section devoted to bicycling, covering buying, maintaining, racing and touring on your bike. I am sure as winter rolls around again there will be more books covering skiing and ski fitness, together with snowshoeing and all the other winter activities Summit County residents and visitors enjoy.
“Three Cups of Tea”, a best seller that my friends are all talking about, was there, as were the suspense and mystery books my husband likes so well. There was plenty of non-fiction, with books about Hilary Clinton and Einstein, (not together!) and the business and economics section was well represented.
A few months ago, our Frisco Hallmark store closed, and since then, it has been hard to find birthday cards and gift wrap without going to the local WalMart. The Next Page has filled that need with a wonderful selection of cards from Papyrus, together with gift bags, wrap and ribbon. I saw many people browsing the kids section, having fun choosing books to take home to the family.
I think this bookstore will be a great addition, and I look forward to doing some of my shopping there, especially with as many readers as I have in my family!
