A Frisco glass blowing studio, “the gatherhouse”
The Gatherhouse is a glass blowing studio in Frisco, Colorado. Run by John Hudnut and his wife Kate, they have demonstrations and classes on a regular basis.
You can watch as John makes vases, tumblers, lighting or bowls, every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 7pm or by appointment. It is a popular place, especially during the summer as John and his assistants transform 2000 degree molten glass into beautiful pieces of art. It is fascinating to watch for all ages. It amazes me that glass of this quality can be made by hand. We get so used to things being done by machines that it is nice to see someone who is truly skilled in an artform making such beautiful things.
If you would rather have hands on experience, they offer classes with one-on-one instruction during the 3 hour session. Imagine giving Mom or Grandma a vase you made yourself! The classes are a great gift for couples, friends, or as a client gift. The price is $125 per student, including the cost of materials. Gift certificates are also available.
Their location is in the cream colored stucco building at 319 3rd Ave, in Frisco, at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Frisco St, just about 3 blocks off Main St. Or, find them on the web at www.gatherhouse.com.
John and Kate will be displaying and selling their artwork at the Mountain Art Gathering, a benefit for the Summit Foundation, July 27-30 in Keystone. They will also be at the Vail Arts Festival August 10th to 12th. Their glass can be found at the Arts Alive Gallery in Breckenridge, Porteria Designs in Breckenridge, Culture Clash in Salida, Colorado, The Evergreen Gallery, Evergreen, Colorado, Gallery Gustave in Denver, Colorado and Exhibit 51 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is also available at the Gatherhouse itself.

Thank you, Joanne for the thoughtful article. I just wanted to clarify one thing. We will not be showing at the Beaver Creek Arts Festival this year. We will, however, be at the Vail Arts Festival (http://www.vailartsfestival.com) in Lionshead from August 10 - 12, 2007.
