The first Seller’s representative in Summit County

Yesterday I obtained my ASR designation.

It is more than just an addition to the alphabet soup after my name. It stands for Accredited Seller Representative, and it is important because in Summit County, the tradition is for the real estate agents to be neutral third parties, or Transaction Brokers, representing no one in the transaction. They work very hard to put the sale together and keep it together, but not always to the benefit of the Seller.

How does this designation benefit you? It means that I MUST always place the interest of the Seller above all others in the transaction, and that includes myself.

The good, the bad and the ugly

I have seen property managers in Summit County fit all three of these categories!

If you have a second home here and want to rent it when you are not using it, you either hire a management company to do it for you, or you put it on www.vrbo.com and handle it yourself. Many people, because of time and/or distance, prefer to use a Property Management company who books it, cleans it and mails you the check each month. Your goal is to find a company that fits into the “good” category.

The fees they charge vary widely, from about 25% of gross revenue to 50%. Most companies have fees in addition to the share they take, and they can add up to as much as another 7%. Be sure you ask about those fees.

Home exchanges; a cheap way to travel?

Many websites are now devoted to helping people who want to exchange homes, almost anywhere in the world. The idea is that if you want to go to France, and someone in France wants to go where you live, you connect on the web and trade houses. Sounds easy, and perhaps it is.

Blogging is a bit like skiing

It is much easier if you start at 4 years old. However, as a skier who took her first lesson at 40, I can tell you that it is not impossible. Blogging works perfectly for me in that my goal has always been to give my clients the information they need, and lots more they didn’t know they needed.
