Traveler FAQs

Here are some answers to your questions about travelling to Summit County.

  1. I am coming to Summit County and need a place to stay.  Any recommendations?  For reservations for short term rentals check our list of property management companies.  They manage properties all over the county.  Another place to check is www.vrbo.com, a website where property owners rent their vacation properties themselves.  If you are interested in buying in a certain town or condo complex, try and stay there and try it out.
  2. Where’s a good place to eat?  I like the Smiling Moose in Frisco and Silverthorne for great lunch sandwiches.  Fiesta Jalisco’s in Silverthorne for good Mexican Food.  The Mountain Lyon in Silverthorne serves an excellent breakfast.  But there are a lot of great places to get a bite to eat in the county.  Check out the Summit County restaurant inspections for more ideas.
  3. What is there to do in the county?  Summit County is a year ’round ,recreational playground.  There are many wintertime activities aside from downhill skiing or snowboarding.  Try a day of cross country skiing or snowshoeing, or hop on an inner tube and slide down one of the many tubing hills.  You can try Breckenridge’s alpine coaster or take a horse drawn sleigh ride.  Snowmobiling or dog sledding can be enjoyed nearby.  Fly fishing can be enjoyed any time of year in the gold medal trout waters of the Blue River.  Hike to the top of a 14er in the summer or choose a lower summit if you prefer.  Some areas can be accessed by off-road vehicles or horseback. Bicycling and sailing are other popular summertime activities.   There are concerts, art fairs and plays that take place all around town.
  4. Is there transportation around town as well as to and from the airport? The Summit Stage offers free bus service throughout Summit County.  Keystone and Breckenridge both have shuttles to transport people from nearby neighborhoods to the ski slopes.  Colorado Mountain Express (CME) provides transportation to and from the airport in Denver.  If you must travel to Denver you will be smart to try and avoid travel to Denver on Sunday afternoons.  Traffic gets very heavy and will take you several more hours.
