Summit County homeowners assaulted by campaign workers

Nov 1, 2008 | No Responses

Republican candidatesBoth the Obama and McCain campaigns are calling and knocking on doors in Summit County in such numbers that some homeowners may feel they are being assaulted from all sides.  One resident told me today that they had been called about six times just today!   They may have been exaggerating a bit, but it just goes to show what an important state Colorado is to this election.

Democratic candidateI am housing a couple of volunteers who drove in from California and Utah to help in the campaign.  We have had a lot of fun checking out youtube videos and reading the political blogs as we watch CNN in the evenings.  They are working 8 to 12 hours every day.  I have never seen enthusiasm like this in any election, and I have been through a few.  The goal between now and November 4 is to make sure people vote, so the plan is to call and/or knock on doors until we know each person has been to the polls.  We are offering rides to voters and making sure everyone knows where to go to vote.  Summit County is more difficult than many counties because about two thirds of our homes are second homes, so no one lives there.  We also have a lot of people who spend a year or two here and then move on.  It makes it difficult to keep track of everyone.  We get a lot of wrong numbers and “sorry, he hasn’t lived here in two years.”   The out of towners have had trouble finding addresses, but have had a good time talking to all our local residents

Summit County has the option for early voting and also for mail in ballots.  More than a third of registered voters had already voted about a week prior to election day, so hopefully that will keep the lines down on Tuesday.  Be sure you get out there and vote!
