Summit County’s best kept secret; summer
Summit County is a great place for not only the ski condo at the base of the mountain but also for the magnificent summer home. Even if you don’t like cold weather and winter activities, don’t rule out Colorado’s Rocky Mountains for your vacation home just yet.
Summit County includes the communities of Breckenridge, Dillon, Keystone, Frisco and Silverthorne as well as Copper Mountain and A Basin ski areas. These areas are most commonly known for their world class ski resorts and are often overlooked by those that don’t take part in cold weather activities.
Summers in the county are beautiful! A hot day is in the 80’s with night time temperatures dropping into the 50’s. It’s great weather for hiking the vast National Forests, sailing on Lake Dillon, or biking down mountain trails or paved bike paths that criss-cross the community. Summit County is a great place to escape the heat and humidity found across the country all summer long.
Consider purchasing a condo at the base of Copper Mountain. During the summer you can stay at your condo and take advantage of all of the summer fun happening at Copper Mountain and all over the county without the crowds you might find elsewhere. Winters you go back to your primary residence and rent out your ski condo to those not fortunate enough to own. Winter is prime rental season here. You can enjoy your second home in the summer and have the skiers and snowboarders help you pay for it all winter.
Still unsure about Colorado summers? Come for a visit. Do some hiking, fly fishing, gold panning and sailing. Find out what the locals already know; Summit County’s a great place to be!

Joanne – it is one of our best kept secrets too…. well use to be – now we have more tourist in the summer than the winter – so maybe winter is our new secret
Summer is getting very busy for us too, Thesa! The secret is out!
Highs in the 80s in mid-summer sounds nice. Summit County would be a perfect escape from the heat for many folks. Sounds like there are a lot of great summer activities.
Rita, I often have people ask me if the home we are looking at has central air. I just laugh, and tell them they can open a window, and if it is really warm, open two!
