Summit County’s Halloween events
Halloween activities in Summit County, Colorado are spread out over a two week period, starting with a Halloween hike at the Breckenridge Nordic Center on Saturday, October 13, 2007. The hike is part of the Breckenridge Nature Series and is guided by a naturalist, who will give the participants the gory details about bats, hooting owls and mysterious lights in the night. Children, who should be with an adult, are invited to wear their costumes and join the easy one mile hike through the forest, picking up treats as they go. They will participate in short, interactive games and activities during the hike and will finish up with cider and cookies. The program is from 6pm to 8pm, with hikes leaving every half hour from 6 to 8. Suggested donations are $5 per person or $20 a family and the money goes to support the Breckenridge Nature Series. The program will occur rain or shine, so dress appropriately to be outside. Dogs are not allowed at this program. Call the Breckenridge Recreation Center at 970-453-1734 to register. More information is online at www.townofbreckenridge.com.

Friday, October 26 is the Coroner’s Ball. Money raised at the event goes to the Burial Assistance Fund for local residents. The Ball starts at 7pm at the Back Country Brewery and goes until midnight or later. The band, Hello Dave, will be playing. Costumes are encouraged but not required, using the theme “A Celebrity you thought was dead. Like Carol Channing, Dick Clark or Phyllis Diller.” The $30 entry fee includes a taco bar for a light dinner. The Summit County Coroner and the Family and Intercultural Resource Center are the sponsors of the annual Coroner’s Ball, and everyone always has a great time!
Sunday, October 28, The Silverthorne Outlet Mall has Trick or Treat street from 3pm to 6pm. Kids, in their costumes, can trick or treat in the stores, which gives them a safe place to go to show off costumes and collect goodies.
On Halloween eve, Frisco has their Trick or Treat Street, allowing local kids to trick or treat and find people home at the stores which stay open between 6pm and 8pm to hand out candy. Summit County has a large second home population, and it makes it difficult for the kids to trick or treat when there is no one home at most of the houses. Additionally, we have few subdivisions with sidewalks and street lights As a result, I never have kids come to my door on Halloween. I quit buying candy “just in case” someone showed up, because no one ever did, and I ended up eating it all!
Summit County will have its usual fun Halloween! It seems that we almost always have snow and cold on Halloween, but kids here know to dress warmly under their constumes and take it all in stride.

Joannne, I can’t believe that Halloween is around the corner – looks like you’ve got lots of great things going on their – thanks for sharing – Cyndee
Hi Cyndee, there is always plenty to do here! Halloween is a very “local” event though.
Joanne – I love the night hikes. Sounds like a look of spooktacular fun is going on in Summit County! – Ashley
The off season is great for locals as people have more time to do some of the fun things themselves, rather than just helping our guests to have a good time.
